My story

Kardi Kassin

Hey, it's great that you are interested in who is behind this site and the books written.

I was born and raised in Germany, more precisely in Halle an der Saale, near Leipzig.

My mother is German, my father is originally from Ghana and the African part of the family is spread across the west coast of Africa.

My aim is to inform people about the true situation. Unfortunately, I never learned anything about the African continent at school. People heard and knew that there were colonies a long, long time ago, but nobody could tell me exactly what they meant.

The key moment came shortly after my history lessons in a conversation with my history teacher during my A-levels. I asked him if we were actually going to cover anything about the colonial era and colonialism. His answer was short and sweet: that’s not part of the curriculum! Again, I thought that it simply couldn’t be historically relevant. Today I know better.

At the beginning of 2023, I was amazed to discover that there was actually a degree course in African Studies. I didn’t have to think twice and almost immediately filled out the documents to enrol on this course. In fact, this decision was made head over heels, but hey, I thought to myself – what do I have to lose?I knew one thing right from the start: it wasn’t going to be easy.It won’t be easy to find out what actually happened to some of my ancestors, and that was also my biggest inner hurdle.I have finally found a starting point and am now on a journey to clarify all my unanswered questions.I would like to take you with me on this journey, inform you and seek an exchange with you.

Besides my curiosity about African history, I also have a little passion for writing stories. And then I thought, why not pack knowledge into children’s stories and thus ensure that even the youngest are informed about Africa.Because unfortunately, a lot of things are not what they seem these days.
